What can I expect on the day

This Tank Driving Day In Bristol gives you plenty of time to drive military vehicles on a challenging purpose built course near Redhill in the Bristol area. These fabulous tank-fests will let you play soldiers and take the controls of different military mean machines.

Instructors will tell you just how to drive each military vehicle and give you guidance on the best way to tackle the purpose built courses contained within this private 300 acre estate. You will then get ready to rumble as you take turns with your crew to handle the controls and drive each machine in turn. Rev up those mighty military engines and drive through, across and over the numerous dips, ditches, mud and water obstacles which lay before you. A selection of other 'metal testing' tank driving activities is available on our main tank and military page.

On the day you'll be driving the FV432 and one other military vehicle from the fleet:-

FV432 Armoured Personnel Carrier - this robust 15 tonner is powered by an eight litre Rolls Royce engine, luckily you don't have to pay extra for the diesel! With caterpillar tracks and a skid steering you will find this vehicle surprisingly easy to manoeuvre.

Alvis Stalwart Six Wheel Drive - the Stalwart FV623 is an amphibious all terrain vehicle. It can travel at speed across the most demanding terrain and has the ability to travel through deep water.

Military 4x4 Defender  - dressed up in military colours you will be able to take on the trickiest off road tracks and trails with these versatile Landys.

Your tank driving day in Bristol ends with a debrief and chance to discuss your tank and military vehicle driving prowess.

Good instruction on both the APC and the Defender, with attention to safety of all involved. A little disappointed not to get to drive the Stalwart but understand that the combination of 1960's rubber and wet clay soil would have made it difficult and possibly dangerous. The Defender was very entertaining as a substitute, though it didn't have the sheer "might" of the APC!!. Good fun all round.

The two guys that ran the experience were really friendly and welcoming, and gave clear instructions to ensure we were all kept safe. I really enjoyed my time driving both the tank and the Green Goddess. Would definately recommend this experience.
