These dance classes and workshops are specifically aimed at those with no or little dance experience, so whether fancy giving something sociable and fun a go, or you’re keen to learn a new dance style, dancing is for everyone!
Who it's not for
If you’re one of those people who say ‘I’ve got no rhythm’, we say anyone can dance when you find the music you love! So if the reason you don’t want to join a dance lesson is because you feel you’ll be no good at it, a little taster class is always worth a go.
Are there dance lessons suitable for absolute beginners?
Yes! Dance teachers love to introduce newbies to the world of dance. The dance lesson experiences we offer are totally geared up to those who have not had any dance training. Having said that, if you already know your Cha Cha Cha from your Foxtrot, we’ve got lessons in lots of different dance styles, so it's the chance for season movers to learn a new dance!
Do lessons take place at dance schools?
Some lessons do indeed take place at dance studios and workshops, others are scheduled in venues like local halls or clubs. The aim is to offer a sociable place for you get together and dance.
Is it going to be like 'Strictly Come Dancing'?
If you mean full of spray tan, sparkles and critical judges picking up on every flat footed move, no, these lessons are not all competitive and are much more laid back, thankfully. You might well be learning some of the same dances the celebs do though!
Are all vouchers for two people?
In the majority of cases, dance lesson vouchers are for two people to attend a class together. Please see each individual product page for the full details on this.
Are the lessons taught on a one to one basis?
You will be part of a group of people for your dance lesson, with professional dance teachers to coach you and show you the moves.
Can I book a wedding dance lesson?
If wedding dance lessons are not available to buy online, please contact our customer services team by ‘phone, email using the online chat window that opens on each page.
What should I wear for a dance class?
This depends on the dance style you’ll be shaking your thang to, so please see individual pages for info on what to wear for a dance lesson. In general, it’s comfy clothes that are easy to move in.
Do I need special dance shoes?
They're not essential. The recommended shoes vary from flat soled for Lindy Hop, to heels for Burlesque. But if you do have dance shoes suitable for the style of dance you’ll be learning, you’re more than welcome to wear them for your lesson.
Why is there a minimum age of 18 for some of these dance workshops?
It’s because some workshops are held in licensed venues, so participants will need to be 18 or over to take part.
What happens after the lesson?
Quite often you’ll find the dance class turns into a social or dance club afterwards and you may well be invited to stay and practice your new found moves on the dancefloor.
Do you offer belly dancing classes?
Yes we do! This exotic form of dancing is actually a brilliant whole-body workout and it’s a popular choice for hen parties too. Give your hips a workout and book a belly dancing lesson online!
Is it all ballroom and Latin dancing?
No there are other styles too! Of course, if you’re a Strictly fan, you'll be pleased to hear the dances on the show such as the Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Salsa and Cha Cha Cha are all genres of ballroom and Latin dances that you could be learning. You can also try swing dances like Lindy Hop, belly dancing or even discover the sensual you with a Burlesque dancing workshop. Vouchers are available for lessons in all these dance styles.
Can I book a dance lesson at home?
We don’t currently offer any dance lessons in your own home.
Will I always dance with my partner?
In some cases yes, but often you will rotate partners. This gives each of you the chance to dance with others, including your tutors. In certain jazz and swing dances, swapping partners is actively encouraged!
Am I too old for a dance workshop?
You’re never too old to get those dancing feet moving. Lessons are suitable for any age (restrictions apply when lessons take place in licensed venues), but in essence, aged eight or 80 anyone can dance.
Do I need to be fit to go dancing?
A certain level of fitness is required to be able to get the most out of a dance lesson. Of course, much depends on the style of dance. For example, an energetic Charleston takes a lot more out of you than a gentle, gliding waltz.
I’ve got two left feet. Is dancing for me?
Yes. Book a lesson with a professional dancer and you’ll be amazed at how much you can learn in just an hour. And remember, it’s all about enjoying yourself, so there’s no pressure, just fun.
