E-learning or simply 'online courses' are brilliant. Once you enrol, you get access to your course content online. Many of our courses involve live online, where students log in at the same time and your teacher presents a lesson live. Most content is then available online after, so you can watch, pause and re-watch as many times as you like.

Most courses require only a standard web browser. That means you can use your smart phone, a tablet or a computer to access content. For live lessons, most online course leaders use free online meeting software such as Zoom, Google Meet or Teams.

The idea of online courses is that you can go at your rhythm, dipping in and out when you can, or binging loads of content at once! Some courses give you unlimited access for life, others offer a subscription for 12 months, but the aim is to not add deadlines or pressure - it's all about learning in a relaxed way!

For some online courses you'll be invited to work alongside your tutor on a live lesson. For example, on flower arranging you will do a step-by-step class copying what the teacher is doing onscreen. In these cases, you'll be sent a 'kit list' in advance to make sure you have plenty of time to gather the materials you need in advance of your course. For other courses online such as creative writing, you just need a notepad, pen and an inquiring mind!

If it's a course based on you working through online content, you will be able to seek out feedback from tutors as you go along. That way you know how well you are progressing and they can also any questions you have. On live content courses, you all work together at once, getting feedback as you go.

This is the main preoccupation of anyone learning online - the fear of feeling isolated. As well as giving you access to content online, many of our courses include online forums, so you can all feel part of an online community helping each other and offering advice, feedback and ideas.

Definitely! Many signing up for online creative writing courses haven't written anything since they were at school. You don't have to have aspirations of being a published author to enjoy our experiences. It's all about freeing the mind and enjoying writing,  regardless of how long you’ve been away from the keyboard.

Thankfully, e-learning is not like school where you'd get detention if you didn't do your homework on time! Having said that, the more you put into these online courses, the more you will get out of them. If you do have the time, there will be lots of online exercises or further reading suggested for you so you can really get into your subject.
