What Can I Expect

A wonderful whisky tour in Chatham! This is your invitation to see how whisky is made at the renowned Copper Rivet Distillery at Kent’s historic Chatham Dockyard.

Back in the early 2000s, the Russell family had the dream of creating an innovative distillery to produce whisky from scratch. That’s to say from grain to glass. The first batch of their Masthouse whisky went into production in 2017 and was lovingly cask-matured until ready to drink in 2020.

Since then business at Copper Rivet has gone from strength to strength, branching out into Gin and Vodka production too. There’s also a superb bar and restaurant on site, called the Pumproom, where delicious modern European cuisine is served.

On this fantastic tour you will lift the lid on just what it takes to produce their Masthouse Whisky. Your guide will be a member of the Copper Rivet distilling team, who will regale you with anecdotes and the history behind the whiskeys.

As for the ethos of their Masthouse, using high-quality, locally sourced products is hugely important. So you’ll find it’s Kentish wheat, barley and oats in the whisky-making process and you’ll learn just how it’s used.

Of course, now you’ve seen how it’s made, you’ll need to sample the final product. Your experience includes a little cheeky whisky tasting session so you can try some of the different types of whisky produced by Copper Rivet.
