What Can I Expect

Fancy abseiling down the Spinnaker Tower? Descend Portsmouth's famous landmark vertically, using just a harness and rope. You'll definitely need a head for heights for this thrilling Spinnaker Tower abseil experience.

The Spinnaker Tower. Visible from miles around, the iconic billowing sail design structure is the centrepiece of the Portsmouth regeneration project. Locals love it. Visitors love it. And now you can challenge yourself to glide down the side of it on a rope!

Towering above Gunwharf Quays at 115m, the Spinnaker affords amazing views from its glass-fronted viewing platforms. You can see above the historic boatyards, right out across the Solent, over to the Isle of Wight. It's definitely a seagull eye's view of Portsmouth and the surrounding coast and countryside.

Just below the tower's viewing deck is a hatch. And this opens out onto a small platform. A dizzying 100m above the ground, this is where you'll appear on the outside of the Spinnaker, to start your thrilling abseil.

Perched on the platform and kitted out with all the safety gear including a harness and helmet, the abseil instructors will make sure you're ready to head down the Spinnaker's main spine.

Turn your back, lean back and take that first step. Sure, your heart will be in your mouth, but it is an amazing feeling. As confidence builds, you'll feel more at ease and you might even be able to appreciate the incredible views all around you. Take in every moment and enjoy it. After all, this is not something you do every day!

As soon as you reach the ground, an instructor will be on hand to unhook you. Take a moment to look back up and see the enormity of what you have just achieved. You abseiled all the way down the side of the Spinnaker Tower! How cool is that?
