What Can I Expect

Tackle tracks and trails on Segways near Exeter! Ride and glide on these amazing personal transporters around the 2000-acre Escot estate just north of Ottery Saint Mary, deep in the Devonshire countryside.

When you first see a Segway your first reaction might well be: ‘There's no way I'll stay upright on that thing!'. And yes, they do look a bit mad. But believe us, once you've got the knack of riding one, there'll be no stopping you!

To get your started, this Exeter team has set up the Segway test area. This short paddock-style circuit ensures you can get to grips with the controls and how these things work. We won't bore you with the science stuff, but needless to say, they're quite clever little gadgets!

Having sussed out what's what on the test circuit, you're ready for the off. All safaris are guided and instructor-led, so there's no getting lost on this vast Devonshire estate. You'll be exploring everything from smooth-running tarmac paths, to rutted woodland trails. Whether it's zooming along an open field or zig-zagging in amongst the trees, these machines are great fun to ride.

We are offering three different Segway sessions for you in Exeter, giving your 60, 75 or 90-minutes with the Segways. The longer you ride for, the further you'll explore. As well as varied terrain, there are some lovely sights to see too.

On the longer tours, you might Segway on a towpath next to the River Tale and under the A30, to pop out at the lovely little St Philips & St James' church, which used to be part of the Escot estate. Or you could find yourselves taking each other on during a Segway race game.

  • Suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear that you don't mind getting wet/muddly should be worn
