What Can I Expect

A traditional afternoon tea served onboard a steam train along the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway in Derbyshire! Settle down, take in the views and the tasty sweet and savoury treats as you travel.

Ecclesbourne Valley Railway is a delightful heritage line running from the Peak District market town of Wirksworth to Duffield, where the vintage steam trains meet the modern London mainline trains. You will enjoy a full, return trip along the line whilst enjoying your afternoon tea.

The fully-restored, open-plan carriages are welcoming and comfortable. As you take your seat, the steam loco will be being primed for the off. A plume of steam, the aroma of sulphurous smoke, a hiss and a whistle and you’re off...

Leaving Wirksworth station, you’ll follow the course of the River Ecclesbourne on your nine-mile outward journey, deep in classic Derbyshire countryside. The complete voyage takes around an hour and a half in total.

Your tiered afternoon tea stand, comprising sandwiches, cakes and pastries, as well as traditional scones with jam and cream, will arrive at your table soon after departure. Taylor’s of Harrogate tea and coffee will also be served and there is a bar onboard too.
