What Can I Expect
If you’re serious about keeping bees, these weekend beekeeping courses in Surrey are for you! Spend two days learning both about the theory and the practical skills needed to be able to look after your own bees in your own hives.
Run across two days over weekends in the spring and early summer, these courses are hosted by highly experienced and skilled beekeepers who love to impart their knowledge and encourage others to set up their own hives. Workshop locations are at apiary around the Wisley and Applegarth Farm area of Surrey.
These courses are an all-in-one-package for ‘newbees’. Not only will you be shown how to look after bees, you will hear loads of fascinating info and leave the weekend with your very own hive tool and full beekeeper suit. You can even order your hives, frames and bees to get started on your beekeeping journey when you get back home.
The mornings are generally spent learning all about honeybees, including their life cycle, how colonies work, identifying healthy bees, understanding castes and their roles and how to deal with pests and diseases. Over the two days you will have an excellent understanding of the year in the life of a beekeeper.
The afternoons are when you get kitted up and head out to the apiary to lift the frames and see what the bees are doing. You’ll be shown what to do step by step and don’t worry if you feel you can’t remember everything, because this Surrey team has prepared a 70-page training pack, which is sure to become your beekeeping bible.
What’s great about these two-day weekend beekeeping courses in Surrey is that they qualify you for further (free) on-going training days and workshops to accompany you on your first full cycle of keeping bees, helping you to become a bonafide beekeeper!
