What Can I Expect
Exclusive to Into The Blue! Go beyond a standard tractor drive on a day course in Wiltshire! These full-day tractor driving experiences will have you driving and thinking like a working farmer who really knows his tractors.
We love this experience. Having a go at driving a tractor is one thing, but learning how to attach and use the ingenious, time-saving farming tools you find in the world of modern agriculture is really quite extraordinary.
First things first on this day course:- driving a tractor, including with a trailer, around a dedicated circuit. You’ll start with the Massey Ferguson 3635, a mid-sized utility tractor that’s easy to drive and an ideal all-round workhorse down on the farm.
Now you've got to grips with driving the Massey, it’s time to meet the John Deere. These are large, high-performance agricultural machines capable of carrying out a plethora of tasks in their role as heavy-duty workhorses.
And this is where your course gets really cool. You’ll learn how to use the clever three-point linkage system to ‘plug in’ an implement, using the three heavy-duty arms to hoist, control and then pull the attachment.
When a farmer needs to link something ‘active’ like a mower attachment, you’ll be using a PTO (that’s Power Take Off). These are rigid, spinning shafts you see connected from the tractor to what you’re towing. They transfer mechanical power directly from the tractor engine to the implement. And yes, it’s as impressive as it sounds!
Of course, all of this is taught in a safe learning environment. And as you’re surrounded by powerful, working farming tools and tractors, you’ll need to be at least 16 years old to take part in these exclusive full-day tractor driving courses at this Wiltshire farm - and what a day it will be!
