What Can I Expect

The Swinton Estate Garden Tour - join Dame Susan Cunliffe-Lister for talks and walks at the stunning Swinton Park Estate in Yorkshire. It's the perfect gift for keen gardeners and foodies alike, as the package includes lunch at the hotel too.

Dame Cunliffe-Lister and her family own and operate this incredible 20,000-acre estate within the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Ripon. The estate includes formal gardens, kitchen gardens, extensive parklands, grouse moors and farmland. The heart of the estate is the gorgeous 42-bedroom Swinton Park Hotel.

Arriving late morning, you will meet in the Drawing Room of the hotel. Dame Susan will welcome you to Swinton and over tea or coffee, she'll introduce herself and explain what your visit entails.

You will then head to one of the hotel's distinguished restaurants (usually the Country Club's Terrace Bar & Restaurant) for your two-course lunch. Menus are very much seasonal, using vegetables and herbs from the estate's walled garden. The style of cuisine is ‘internationally inspired, made in Yorkshire'.

After eating, your host will talk about her passion for gardening, the choice of produce grown on the estate and her vision for sustainable, locally sourced foods for her team of chefs. Dame Susan will also delve into the history of Swinton and the legacy of the Cunliffe-Lister family.

You will, of course, have plenty of time to tour the wonderful four-acre walled garden, where much of the produce for the kitchens is grown. There are also sweeping parklands to explore, which are, when in season, bursting with colour from the daffodils, azaleas and rhododendrons. You may even spot some of the estates resident fallow deer!
