What Can I Expect
Experience real diving on a SSI Scuba diving course! These one-day introductory courses are perfect for beginners and are run at open-water lakes in Leicestershire and Lancashire.
The SSI Basic Diver programme is designed to give you a genuine taste of what it's like to be a qualified diver. You'll complete two full dives in a single day.
Safety and personal attention are at the heart of these experiences. A dedicated team of three professionals—an instructor, a safety diver and surface cover—will be looking after you throughout the day.
The dive locations for these one-day SSI scuba courses are superb. In Lancashire the Capernwray Lakes are veritable underwater playgrounds. The water is clear and inviting, with wildlife all around, including Sturgeon and Carp. The manmade attractions are numerous. From passenger plane and helicopter wrecks, to sunken shipping containers, cars and ships like HMS Podsnap, there’s lots to explore.
In Leicestershire, the SSI scuba days take place at Stoney Cove, a spring water-fed former quarry in the countryside between Hinckley and Leicester. Peaceful, sheltered and relaxing, Stoney Cove is a real gem - and we love Nemo's Bar & Restaurant overlooking those crystal clear waters!
Both sites are perfect for beginner divers to discover the thrill of breathing underwater, with full diving kit. Our one-day SSI scuba diving days are a great way to try real diving in a very beautiful setting, with supervision and coaching from professional dive teams.
When Is It Available
- Available on Saturdays, typically once per month on a scheduled date
- Session runs from 8:00 - 16:00

Suitable For
- Minimum age 10 years
- Participants should be comfortable and confident in the water
- You must be medically fit for diving and be able to complete a 200-metre swim and tread water for 10 minutes
- No prior diving experience is required
- All participants must download and complete the medical disclaimer prior to participation. Any pre-existing medical conditions highlighted on this form will require medical clearance before we can allow you to take part

- Spectators are generally welcome at these inland diving centres
Anything Else
- Please note that each participant is required to purchase an entry ticket for the venue on the day. Prices range from £20 to £27
- Please wear clothes warm enough for the time of year
- The entire Basic Diver program can be credited towards the SSI Open Water Dive programs within 6 months, so you can take the next step in your dive adventure
