What Can I Expect

Photography workshops in York! One-to-one lessons in this most photogenic of cathedral cities. We are offering two-hour evening sessions and four-hour masterclasses, hosted by a highly experienced and creative professional photographer.

Paul has been a photographer since 1980 and has been running workshops in York for many years. The idea is that these tutorials, taught on an individual basis, are an informal, inspiring and fun way for you to get to know your camera better and discover your own photography style.

Most students come along with a DSLR camera, but any form of camera where you can manually select the focus and exposure will suffice. Paul himself uses a Canon 70D with a range of lenses. If you have different lenses for your camera you are very welcome to bring them too.

The two-hour lessons take place in the evenings, so you can make the most of the stunning scenery in and around the city centre as the light changes and darkness falls. You'll cover the essentials like camera controls, focusing and exposure, as well as composition. No photography workshop in York would be complete without taking pictures in the Shambles (as atmospheric as the Harry Potter Diagon Alley), at York Minster and by the River Ouse.

The four-hour masterclass, based out of a York hotel, is a comprehensive course that covers lots of topics, including all the basics, to take great pictures. There's time to cover the subjects in a more in-depth style and look at more advanced things like ISO and shutter speed, as well as taking photos in black and white and street photography.

In this digital age, taking the photo is only half the story. What you do next with it is also covered in the masterclass, as you take a look at editing on the Lightroom app. You will also be given Paul's photography e-book, which is packed full of practical information.

Turn off auto function on your camera and unlock your creativity with these photography workshops in York, where all teaching is on a one-to-one basis and tailored to what you want to learn.
