Flight Options (Please note routes are guidelines only and subject to change depending on weather conditions)
60 Minute - An introductory microlight experience
- Fly to the south coast, to the east of Portsmouth, aerial views of the natural harbours of Portsmouth, Langstone and Chichester. Enjoy the coastal views before heading back to Popham
70 Minute - Extended introductory flying experience
- In addition to the above you will have time to enjoy the fantastic view of the Solent and some extended time over the sea above the beaches of West Wittering , Hayling Island and Southsea
90 Minute - Solent Adventure flying experience
- This flight takes you right round the Isle of Wight and back to Popham, routing initially to the east of Southampton airspace and coming back to the West of Southampton, over the New Forest and back along the north side of Southampton's Airspace
2.5 Hours - Landaway Flying Experience
- Take in everything the Solent has to offer, including the natural harbours to the East of Portsmouth, Selsey Bill and Bognor Regis, over to the Isle of Wight
- Land at Sandown or Bembridge for a 30 minute break
- The flight continues round the island to the Needles and then can route back to Popham to the west of Southampton, or back to the East of the zone following your original path
What Can I Expect
Microlighting over Hampshire and beyond! Operating out of the lovely Popham Airfield. We are offering 60, 70, 90-minute flights as well as 2.5-hour ‘landaways’ in flex-wing microlights, giving you that ‘open to the elements' flying feel!
Flying from Popham to then over Winchester, down to the Solent coast (sometimes as far as circumnavigating the Isle of Wight), or heading north over the countryside, there's lots to see from the air around this delightful part of Hampshire.
The amazing scenery and optimal flying conditions are also what attracted Chief Flying Instructor Ian MacAdam to operate his microlight school out of Popham. Ian has been flying hang gliders and microlights since 1987 and has flown all around the world, before settling in Hampshire.
Your lesson will be in one of the school's GT450 or PulsR microlights. Both have flexi wings, with the PulsR boasting a semi-enclosed microlight for extra comfort. The GT450, on the other hand, is completely open-cockpit, so it's flight suit and headset on for your ‘like a bird' flight!
All experiences are treated as actual lessons, so you'll follow the NPPL(M) syllabus, which is the official microlight pilot's training programme. That means you'll learn how these machines fly, how the controls work and have a go at flying yourself.
Our top Popham tip? Go for the ‘landaway’ and you’ll fly from Popham to land on the Isle of Wight and have a break, before taking off again to follow the island’s coastline to continue back to base.
With this full range of microlight flight durations, it's also good to know Hampshire's Popham airfield is open all year round. Here’s to blue skies and coastlines in summer and silky smooth air with low winds in autumn and winter!
