The Macallan distillery sits on a plateau above the river Spey near Aberlour on the tip of north-east Scotland. At the heart of the stunning 485-acre estate sits Easter Elchies, the original Highland manor home of Macallan whisky. Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and teacher, The Macallan's desire to make high quality, hand-crafted whisky still rings true today, as you're about to find out…
MAP Maison is host for these whisky tasting sessions. This trendy cocktail bar in Hackney is renowned for its extensive collection of whisky from around the world and they have a superlative selection of Macallan whiskies.
After a meet and greet over a welcome whisky cocktail, you will be tasting a trio of Macallan's finest single malts. The Double Cask collection means the whisky has been aged in American and European oak barrels, which have been sherry-seasoned in Spain. It's an amazing process and your tasting host will tell you all about it.
What we find incredible is the fact that the ‘new make' spirit is actually clear and colourless when it goes into the barrels. The final golden hue colour of the whisky and over 80% of the flavour comes from the wood of the cask during the ageing process. Who knew?!
As well as learning a lot and tasting, your Macallan whiskies will be paired with cheeses, for a full taste sensation. You'll also enjoy a small tapas plate. And of, course, everything has been chosen to perfectly compliment the 12, 15 and 18-year old whiskies you'll be sampling.
Your Macallan whisky experience concludes in the best possible way, with a whisky cocktail made by the MAP Maison expert mixologists.
