What Can I Expect
Head to Headcorn for helicopter lessons! Trial flights in Robinson R22s out of Headcorn Aerodrome in the heart of the Kentish Low Weald, equidistant from Ashford and Maidstone.
We have 20, 30, 40 and 60-minute lesson durations for you at Headcorn. Under the expert guidance of your instructor pilot, you will get the chance to have a go at the controls of the helicopter and actually fly the thing yourself!
Following your pre-flight briefing in the clubroom, you will make your way out to the helipad for a walk around the helicopter. After that, it’s time to climb aboard this two-seater trainer and get settled in up front alongside your instructor who’ll explain the controls to you.
When cleared for take off (Headcorn is a bustling private airfield with lots going on!), you’ll be amazed at how smoothly you’re off the ground. Once you’ve reached level height, you’ll take control. And that’s you flying a helicopter at around 1000 ft!
Of course, you’re here to learn how a helicopter flies, but we have to admit, the scenery is absolutely stunning around the Weald (from castles and country houses, to reservoirs and quaint villages) so make sure you take a moment during your lesson to appreciate it all.
Our special tip for anyone wanting to have a go in a helicopter: book the 40 or 60-minute lesson from Headcorn and you’ll get to try the fine art of hovering in the R22. Done near the helipad, it’s close enough for friends and family watching to see what you’re doing and take photos.
