Choose Your Base
Fort William
Fort William, beneath Ben Nevis Based from Fort William, at the foot of the UK's highest mountain. Routes explore the surrounding hills and glens rather than the summit itself, with the Nevis range setting the backdrop for the day.
Aviemore
Aviemore, in the Cairngorms Based from Aviemore, on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park. Broad plateaus and rolling glens give a different winter character, with routes shaped by your guide to suit conditions on the day.
What Can I Expect
Discover the beauty of Scotland’s winter mountains with a full-day guided walk . Choose between the dramatic mountain scenery around Fort William, beneath Ben Nevis, or the spectacular Cairngorms National Park near Aviemore. With a qualified mountain guide leading the way, you’ll explore the winter landscape while developing your confidence in the mountains.
This experience is about more than reaching a summit. Throughout the day, your guide will introduce you to useful winter mountain skills, including reading the terrain, moving confidently on snow and ice, and understanding how weather and mountain conditions influence decisions. These practical techniques are incorporated naturally into the walk, allowing you to learn as you go.
With just 3 - 6 participants, you’ll enjoy a more personal experience with plenty of opportunity to learn from your guide. The day begins with a briefing covering the weather and planned route, followed by a full day on the mountain . Your route will be selected on the day to suit the conditions and the group’s ability, making every experience unique. At the end, you’ll take part in a debrief to reflect on what you’ve learnt.
Whether you’re new to winter mountain walking or simply keen to develop your skills, no previous winter mountaineering experience is required. A reasonable level of fitness and stamina is essential, as you’ll spend approximately seven hours exploring varied mountain terrain in winter conditions.

- In the event of unsuitable weather conditions, the experience may be cancelled, postponed or moved to an alternative location. If cancelled due to weather, the activity will be rescheduled
