What Can I Expect

Spend a delightful couple of hours having afternoon tea in Cornwall in the lovely gardens of a thatched cottage in the heart of the Truro countryside. We are offering vouchers for two to enjoy either a traditional Cornish afternoon tea or cream tea, with a glass of bubbly on arrival.

The location is wonderfully peaceful and tranquil, with a welcoming and homely feel. You will be guests at this Grade II listed thatch cottage built in 1600, surrounded by pretty flowers, plants, trees and bird song. The cottage is on a country lane in the village of Poosanooth, just off the main road which runs from Redruth to Falmouth.

It’s the countrified centre of Cornwall, adjacent to the River Kennall and right on the edge of the Kennall Vale Nature Reserve; the former gunpowder factory that is now a World Heritage Site. It’s an ideal place to go for a little walk or a nice hike before or after your teatime treat in the garden.

What we like most about these afternoon teas in this quiet corner of Cornwall are the little extra touches. Upon arrival there’s a glass of bubbles for each guest. Your reserved outdoor table will be dressed in a crisp tablecloth with a parasol to shade you from the Cornish sun or drizzle. And once seated, your host will serve you.

The Cornish cream tea includes your choice of tea blend, accompanied by freshly baked scones, served with clotted cream and strawberry jam. The full afternoon tea adds a selection of sweet and savoury delights and traditional finger sandwiches.

And we have to say, the scones are magnificent. Big, light and fluffy with lashings of homemade jams and clotted cream (this is Cornwall after all!). Just writing about it is making us pine for a little sit down and a scone!

  • Weekdays and weekends excluding Mondays from 1st March to 30th October
  • Dates are subject to availability
  • Booking must be made at least 7 days in advance
  • Cream Tea : 11:00-13:00, 13:00-15:00 or 15:00-17:00
  • Afternoon Tea: 12:00-14:00 or 14:00-16:00

  • The garden is located near the Kennall Vale World Heritage Site

Suitable For

  • No minimum age but under 18s must be accompanied by a participating adult
  • If you have any dietary requirements or allergies please make these known at the time of booking
  • Access to the upper lawn includes a small set of stairs which are not suitable for wheelchair access
  • Wheelchairs can be seated on the lower lawn (if you require this seating please confirm this at the time of booking as tables are limited)
  • Vegetarian and vegan options can be catered for, please make this known when making your booking if this is required

Anything Else

  • As the experience takes place in an outdoor tea garden, parasols are provided in the case of rain however if the weather is severe, your booking will be rescheduled to an alternative date
