What Can I Expect

Flying lessons in Northumberland with the loveliest backdrop ever! At an airfield just 40-minutes north of Newcastle, we are offering 30, 60 and 2-hour trial flights in light sports aircraft.

Athey's Moor is a small, yet perfectly formed, airfield just outside the village of Longframlington. You're totally in the heart of the Northumberland countryside here, surrounded by farms and parks, yet just a short flight away from bustling Newcastle and Berwick.

The flying school based here specialises in light sports aircraft. That's to say, the planes are light enough to be classed as microlights, but they have all the comfort of a classic small plane, with an enclosed glass cockpit and side-by-side seating.

The fleet of trainer aircraft used for these trial lessons includes the CT32K by Flight Design, which is a popular high-wing aircraft and the low-wing EuroStar, which has a very sporty look about it - and a range of 1300km to boot!

The 30 and 60-minute flights out of Athey's Moor allow you to explore the local area, which, quite frankly, is littered with formal gardens, parklands, country houses and stunning coastline. As soon as you take off and cross the A1, you're on your way to Warkworth, the start of the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

If you opt for the two-hour flight experience, you'll have plenty of time to fly further afield to see even more of all that Northumberland coastal and countryside loveliness. These longer flights are a great choice for combining more in-depth teaching with sightseeing.

Don't get too immersed in the views on any of these flights though. You have a plane to fly! Yep, at some point during your flight you'll be given the opportunity to take the controls and experience the sensation of piloting the plane.
