What Can I Expect

Flying lessons at Manston Airport in Kent! We are offering 30, 45 and 60-minute lessons in a light sports aircraft from this historic aerodrome in the Thanet district of Kent.

Trial flights are operated by an Ikarus C42. These two-seater trainer planes are great fun to fly, being responsive and forgiving at the same time. You get a great view from the cockpit too, so you’ll be able to spot all the local Kentish landmarks as you fly.

And indeed, the coast at Cliffsend and Ramsgate is only a mile from the runway, so as soon as you take off, you’ll be in prime position for those coast and country views. You’ll also be able to spot the likes of the Spitfire and Hurricane memorial, as well as the RAF Manston museum located on the airfield.

All lessons are hands-on, so as soon as your pilot instructor has reached altitude, you’ll be able to take over the controls and fly the Ikarus over Manston all by yourself!

If you’re in this area of Kent, you’ll know Manston has re-invented itself several times since opening as RAF Manston in 1916. From being a Battle of Britain fighter base in WW2 and a strategic position during the Cold War, to being at the forefront of charter services in the 70s as Kent International Airport, Manston is back and ready to welcome you for your flying lesson!
