What Can I Expect

Stay all day at the wonderful Ecclesbourne Valley Railway with these great value Day Rover tickets! We have hop-on, hop-off tickets for adults and children, with our family day rover ticket for up to two adults and three children offering exceptional value for money.

No need to work out ticket prices with these all-day passes - you’re free to go on any scheduled service running that day. Operating steam-hauled and classic diesel trains, you will be able to enjoy several journeys in a day.

Running along nine miles of track from Wirksworth to Duffield, Ecclesbourne Valley is Derbyshire’s longest heritage railway, parallel to the Ecclesbourne Way 11-mile walking route that follows the meandering River Ecclesbourne.

Our tip? Make sure you take time at Wirksworth to explore. We loved the audio surprise at the old quarry tunnel, having a browse in the book store and enjoying an ice cream from the Apollo cafe in the 1950s wagon on platform 3.

If you’re lucky enough to be using your Day Rover ticket on a day when the trains are running to Ravenstor, this is a must-do. The branch line sets off in the opposite direction, stopping very close to the National Stone Centre, where kids can pan for (fool’s) gold!

And of course, if you alight at Duffield Station, you are perfectly placed for spotting mainline connecting services to Derby and Matlock, or Sheffield and London St Pancras, so you can see the old and the new.

We know kids and grown ups of all ages love visiting the authentic and very welcoming Ecclesbourne Valley Railway - and these Day Rover tickets are a superb deal.
