What Can I Expect

Start your day with breakfast at the East Somerset Railway! These vouchers for two give you an all-day ticket to ride the steam trains, explore the main station and enjoy your morning treat. A great day out for all ages.

Your ‘Whistlestop Continental’ breakfast will be prepared for you at the Station Cafe at Cranmore Station. Served in a handy carry box, you can take your breakfast on the train with you, eat it in the picnic area by the rail tracks, or sit inside the cafe.

Most guests do indeed take their continental breakfast on the train with them, so you can relax in those vintage carriages, whilst sipping on a hot tea or coffee, enjoying your croissant and gazing out of the window!

The East Somerset line runs from Cranmore in the direction of Shepton Mallet as far as the Mendip Vale stop, where the loco ‘runs round’ to then pull the wagons back to Cranmore.

The return journey takes around 30 to 45-minutes, so with your all-day ticket there’s plenty of time to ride several trains, but make sure you take time to explore all the things to see at East Somerset Railway too!

Cranmore is the main operational base and where you’ll find the engine sheds, workshop and miniature railway as well as the David Shepherd museum, an exhibition displayed in a former carriage in homage to the man who founded the heritage railway.

Our tip is to arrive nice and early at Cranmore, grab your Whistlestop Continental breakfast box and hop on the first steam train departure of the day to get straight down to the business of exploring the East Somerset Railway!
