What Can I Expect

Feel festive on the special edition Christmas vintage bus and steam train experience at Ecclesbourne Valley Railway in Derbyshire! Book your tickets for this exclusive excursion on Friday 4th December 2026.

Your yuletide day out starts with a ride in a lovely vintage bus. Pick up points are across North Nottinghamshire, including Sutton, Annesley and Kirkby. The likes of ‘Walter’, ‘Ernie’ and ‘Ethel’ (the coaches!) will be taking you on your festive journey to Wirksworth.

Alighting at this popular Peak District market town, this is where you will board your Christmas Journey steam train. Setting off from Wirksworth, you’ll head south along the popular heritage line to Duffield, passing through Shottle and Idridgehay stations.

Settle in your vintage train carriage, before stewards come round with warm mince pies and mulled wine - the perfect accompaniment for a Christmas steam train ride!

After the locomotive has ‘run around’ at Duffield, you’re ready for the return steam journey back to Wirksworth, where the vintage coaches and their drivers will be ready and waiting for you to board for your return bus ride.

This very special Christmas excursion featuring vintage bus journeys and a steam train ride is scheduled for the 4th December for one day only. Buy your vouchers today and get booked in to make sure you’re on the departure list!
