What's Included
- Drive a Type 4 Diesel Locomotive
- Welcome, introduction and safety briefing
- Familiarisation session with the locomotive to show how it works and the operating of its controls
- 16 mile round trip to Princes Risborough Station and back (8 miles per leg)
- The loco is a 'light engine' (no carriages)
- Guidance from an experienced train driving instructor
- Allow approximately two hours for this experience
30 Minute Drive
- Drive the train for 4 miles (approx. 30 minutes at the controls)
- You will form part of a small group of four participants

What Can I Expect
Chinnor Railway train driving experiences - only available through Into The Blue! Your chance to drive a Type 4 diesel locomotive along the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway in Oxfordshire, as part of these shared experiences.
We are offering vouchers for a 30 minute drive (as one of a group of four), or 60 minutes on an experience running with two participants. You’ll be in the cab of the classic Type 4 diesel for a return trip along the full Chinnor Railway line.
These diesel locos are certainly impressive. With around 2500 bhp, the roar of the powerful Type 4 has been heard the length and breadth of the country’s railways running passenger and freight services since the early 1960s.
Even today, some of the classic Brush-built locomotives are still in rail-worthy condition with a ‘mainline’ certificate, but most have been retired. The Type 4 you’ll be driving has been lovingly restored and now proudly lives and runs at Chinnor Railway.
Your Chinnor crew will welcome you in the cab of the locomotive and, after a familiarisation session, you’ll hear the clunk of the signal and you’re off, rolling in your Type 4 along the eight mile line from Chinnor to Princes Risborough and back.
As well as seeing some stunning scenery from your great viewpoint high up in your locomotive, you will have tremendous fun actually driving this behemoth of a diesel train. These train driving experiences at Chinnor Railway are super popular, so make sure you buy now and get booked in!

Suitable For

- Participants should be reasonably fit and in good health - fit enough to climb on and off the locomotive from ground level unaided

- Old clothing that fully cover the arms and legs should be worn
- Wear sturdy shoes or boots that protect the feet - trainers are not permitted
