What Can I Expect

Book a seat on the Canterbury tour and discover this historic Kentish city and a whole lot more! This full-day guided tour sees you exploring Canterbury, Dover Castle and the famous White Cliffs all in one day.

Departing from and returning to central London, these tours cover all the sights, landmarks and historical bits, with free time for you to explore too. Travel is by luxury coach and you will be accompanied by an expert guide who will be showing you around.

The compact and very bijou city of Canterbury dates back to Prehistoric times. The Romans invaded and called it Durovernum Cantiacorum. They built walls, theatres, baths and temples on a new grid-style street layout, which included seven impressive gateways to the city.

Today, one of those gateways, Westgate Towers, is the largest remaining in the country. It's a definite highlight of your Canterbury visit, along with the pretty Westgate Gardens, flanked by the Great Stour river. Look out for the Crooked House, the black and white timbered Old Weaver's House and the postcard perfect views along Butcher's Lane towards the cathedral.

Your tour includes your entrance fee to visit Canterbury Cathedral, the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, head of the Church of England. The whole area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is truly stunning.

After Canterbury, you'll head along the Kentish coast to Dover Castle. Again, the entry fee is covered in your tour, so you can explore this impressive hilltop 11th century castle. Known as the ‘Key to England' thanks to its frontline position over the English Channel, Dover Castle is steeped in history. Make sure you check out the network of underground tunnels used as the operational HQ for the Dunkirk Evacuation in WW2.

Adjacent to Dover Castle are the White Cliffs of Dover. Soaring majestically over the beaches, these famously white chalk and black flint cliffs reach 110m above sea level. You'll be taken to a viewpoint where, in good weather, you can easily see right across to Cap Gris Nez near Calais in France. Truly magnificent.

This full-day Canterbury Tour gives you a packed itinerary with everything organised for your pilgrimage to this historic corner of Kent!
