What Can I Expect
Blaenavon Railway Sparkling Steam Train Cream Tea! There is nothing quite like the whistle of a steam engine and the clink of teacups as you roll through the Welsh countryside.
You'll board your carriage at Furnace Sidings, the heart of this dedicated heritage railway. As the train pulls away, you can settle into your seat and prepare for a journey that harks back to the golden age of rail travel.
Your traditional cream tea is served directly to your table, featuring freshly baked scones piled high with jam and clotted cream. To make the occasion even more special, each guest receives a mini bottle of bubbly to enjoy alongside their choice of tea or coffee.
The train travels a scenic 6.2-mile route, heading first towards Big Pit station before reversing back through the sidings. You'll continue on to Garn-yr Erw Halt and the current end of the line at Coed Avon, taking in the historic landscape along the way.
One of the most thrilling moments occurs during the return to Furnace Sidings, where the track hits a 1:34 gradient. This is one of the steepest climbs on any heritage line, and you'll hear the locomotive working hard as it tackles the slope.
At Blaenavon High Level, the engine will "run around" the carriages, providing the perfect opportunity to hop out for a quick photo. It’s a wonderful chance to see the majestic steam loco up close before finishing your 55-minute trip back at the main station.
