What Can I Expect

Biplane flights over South Yorkshire and beyond! Operating out of Netherthorpe Airfield between Worksop and Sheffield, this intriguing plane will have you hooked on flying from a bygone age!

Sitting proudly in all her RAF trainer finery, this aircraft is a modern-day homage to the original Belgian Stampe biplane that became a remarkable piece of aviation history.

We won’t tell you the full story (we'll leave that to your instructor pilot!), but needless to say it’s a tale of daring and courage in the midst of the Second World War - and a bid for freedom from occupied Belgium.

Having been granted special permission by the Royal Air Force to display the MX457 serial number of the legendary Stampe, it’s a true delight to see this modern aircraft in the South Yorkshire skies.

Netherthorpe (formerly home of the RAF 613 Squadron), is a great airfield to fly from. It has a rich aviation history, with flying happening here since 1933. Oh and it happens to have the shortest licensed grass runway in the country!

We are offering 20 and 40-minute biplane flights out of Netherthorpe cruising over the local counties of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire, as well as the extended Dambusters Heritage experience, which will see you retracing the 617 ‘Dambuster’ Squadron routes into the Derwent Valley.

The immersion into vintage RAF flying is 100%. You even get to wear a flying suit, leather jacket and helmet for your open-cockpit biplane experience, harking back to those pre- and post-war flying days in honour of Stampe MX457!
