What Can I Expect

Meet the happy bees of Higher Kellacott on these relaxed and friendly beekeeping experiences in Devon! Spend a couple of hours on a Sunday in spring or summer learning all about the bees on this picturesque smallholding near Dartmoor.

Your hosts are Georgina and David. They, along with their dogs, sheep, lambs, hens and geese, love life on their three-acre farm. From its elevated position, the views from their 17th century cob farmhouse across the Devonshire countryside are captivating.

The apiary is behind the house in the top field. The busy bees buzz in and out of their hives all day long. With fields and wild flowers all around, these bees really are living their best lives, even if the life of a worker bee is pretty intense!

Pop your wellies and the protective gear on and you're ready to literally lift the lid on beekeeping. All those questions you've had about bees will be answered. What actually happens in the hive? How is the honey made? How do you get it into a jar? How do you known if you're going to get runny or set honey? What's the Queen bee all about?

With good humour, enthusiasm and a love for the outdoors, David and Georgina will have you enthralled during your visit to their Devonshire farm. There's a lot more to beekeeping than setting up a hive and waiting to see what happens - and it's utterly fascinating.

Of course, no beekeeping experience in delightful Devon would be complete without a tasting session. Freshly produced and with all the floral flavours of the land, it's yummy honey from Kellacott. Buy your vouchers online now and get ready to discover what these bees can do!
