What Can I Expect

Fancy throwing an axe like a berserker? (And yes, these unruly Norse vikings did indeed give us the word ‘berserk!). The team at this outdoor centre not far from Maldon love hosting a good axe throwing session and they are experts in all things ancient weaponry.

No self-respecting Viking ever left home without their axe. After all, back in those warrior days, you never knew when you'd need to chuck it at something or someone. Today, it's simply about lobbing axes into wood targets, but there is still a little bit of competitive spirit there, as you compete to be the champion thrower of axes.

And it's not actually as easy as a Viking would make it look. You'll be shown how to pick up and handle axes, learning all about the blades and how they spin in the air as you go. Now it's over to you to give it a try. The first time your blade lodges into that great wooden chunk you'll feel delighted. But don't celebrate too early, as sometimes they stick.. but then drop out and hit the deck milliseconds later.

A mixture of Tomahawks and Flying Angels will be thrown at these experiences near Chelmsford. The carbon steel Flying Angels are particularly cool, as they are a hybrid of axe and knife, with a suitably Viking-esque crucifix shape.

With a maximum group size of 12, there's plenty of time for all of you to get lots of axes thrown. These experiences are a great idea for a small group gathering too, be it a birthday or part of a hen or stag event.
