What Can I Expect

Bring Canada's favourite backyard pastime to Sussex when you go axe throwing in Brighton! It might not be the first outdoor activity you think of, but believe us, axe throwing is utterly brilliant and you don't have to be the size of a burly logger to lob axes into the targets. It's a great choice for Brighton stag and hen dos too.

Based on a farm estate within the South Downs in Sussex, it's a pretty idyllic and a very countrified setting for your axe throwing experience. It's all very peaceful, yet you're just minutes from the bustle and energetic vibe of Brighton, with the University of Sussex and the Brighton & Hove stadium nearby too.

So here you are, in 10 acres of woodland, wondering how to throw an axe. The instructors who run this outdoor centre and shooting ground will guide you every step of the way on the road to becoming a target-hitting axe thrower. They'll show you how important your stance is, how you grip the handle of the axe and how far, depending on the size and length of the axe's shaft, you need to stand from the target. And that's because you ideally need a full rotation so your axe can landing squarely on in the target you're aiming at.

Contrary to popular belief, the axe doesn't need to be really sharp, so whilst you do have to take care when handling axes, you know they've not got super sharp blades. And again, anyone can throw. It's more about axe handling technique than brute strength, as you'll soon learn at this Brighton centre.

You'll start with smaller, easier to handle 12" Ninja axes, before moving on to Tomahawks and then bad axes, which is proper bad axe stuff! See how you get on in the target area of three scoring zones and see if you will be crowned champion bad axe thrower.

If you fancy adding on an extra activity to your axe throwing in Brighton, you can opt for the combo voucher, which gives you an hour of axe throwing plus either archery with coaching from GNAS (Grand National Archery Society) instructors, or air rifles with telescopic sights on 15 to 40m length targets.
