What Can I Expect

Farm your 4x4 skills in Dumfries! Head down to this working farm in the Lowlands of Scotland to see if you can drive a 4x4 like a farmer. You might even get the chance to help out with some of the daily farming tasks while you're driving.

Just outside Lockerbie you'll find Kirkwood Farm, owned by the sixth generation of the Steel family. When you've got sheep and cows to look after on an estate that covers 600-acres of Scottish countryside, you need help. That's where a good 4x4 comes in.

Vehicles like the Land Rover Discovery, Nissan Pathfinder and Ford Ranger are the trusty workhorses of the farm. Reliable, rugged and surprisingly agile for such big cars, they can go pretty much anywhere on this sort of varied terrain.

As you explore the private roads, tracks and trails on this Lockerbie estate, you'll get an insight into the workings of the farm. And through a mixture of instruction, demos and driving, you'll be tackling some tricky terrain as you go. Learn the angle of approach for hills, test your mettle in the gullies and ditches. Splash through the fords and splatter through the mud. It's great fun.

An expert driver will be by your side at all times, showing you how to get the very best out of the vehicle. For example, you might be taught when to use four wheel drive and when you make use of low ratio. All sessions are geared to you and what you're most interested in trying. • Guest passengers may ride in the back of the vehicle for an additional charge of £5 per person, subject to space
