Explore DCI Stanhope's patch on a Vera film locations tour! These full-day guided coach tours will show you more than 15 locations on the Northumberland coast and countryside featured on the popular ITV detective series.

Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope is not your usual detective. At first she seems rather grumpy, aloof even. But deep down she cares a huge amount about her work and her team (if she calls you ‘pet' she likes you). She drives a clapped out old Landy, wears a scruffy mac and a rain hat, but her mind is razor sharp.

From her Northumberland & City Police HQ, she steers her team to investigate grisly murders, many of which involve crime scenes on atmospheric moors, isolated farm houses, blustery beaches and fishing ports.

The shows are based on the books written by crime fiction author Ann Cleeves, who lives in Whitley Bay, so she knows all about the dramatic Northumbrian scenery. And indeed, the production team picks superb locations for filming Vera as it is beautifully shot.

Leaving Newcastle city centre by coach, you’ll see the likes of Amble, Warkworth, Alnmouth and Bamburgh. You'll be able to get off the coach to stretch your legs and take photos at regular intervals.
