Aviation Museums & Aircraft Tours

Most aviation museums are very family-friendly, but specific hangar tours (like Biggin Hill) may have age restrictions (often 12+ or 16+) due to it being a working restoration environment. It's always a good idea to look in the full details of each experience to check who it is suitable for.

It depends on the venue and your voucher! We have specific experiences to sit in the cockpit of vintage WW2 fighter planes at the renowned Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar and at museums such as Aerospace Bristol, you can walk through the cabin of the iconic Concorde and visit the cockpit too. 

The beauty of visiting an aviation museums is that you will indeed get incredibly close to the aircraft. Even if you can't touch the exhibits, you will certainly get a detailed look at the engineering.

Aviation museums are often housed in huge, original aircraft hangars, which can be drafty. We'd recommend dressing comfortably for walking/being on your feet and layers. Visitt to some of our sites, such as North Weald, involve being outside for some length of time and visiting historic, often unheated buildings, so dress accordingly!

For our dedicated hangar tours you will be given a specific start time for your tour, which will typically last between 90 minutes and two hours. If you are visiting somewhere larger such as Bottisham Air Museum, count on spending around three to four hours to really soak up the atmosphere, the history - and the cafe!

Absolutely! This is tour chance to capture some fabulous close-up images of your favourite aircraft and get fantastic selfies of you inside the cockpit of some very rare and iconic aeroplanes. Of course, there may be some 'no-go zones' in working parts of restoration hangars and you may have to get permission beforehand to use a tripod, but yes, photos for non-commercial use are all OK!

Some of our experiences are at working hangars and airfields, in which case you may well see some aerial movements during the day of your visit. Others are museums on former airfields/aviation industry sites, where there is no longer a runway. Either way, there will be lots to see and do when you visit!

Often you will find lovely cafes on site, with views out onto the apron of the runway, or filled with aviation bric-a-brac and even WW2 decoration. In more industrial settings, refreshments may be limited to a vending machine or tea station. 

Most museums / exhibits are under cover, so a bit of British drizzle won't stop you. If there is an outdoor element to your experience or you have a flight included, the venue will contact you to reschedule if there are cancellations due to poor weather.
