What Can I Expect
Blaenavon Heritage Railway Steam Train Tickets! Step back in time for a nostalgic journey through the scenic Welsh landscape on a beautifully restored heritage railway.
Your adventure begins at Furnace Sidings, where the smell of coal and the sound of the whistle transport you to the golden age of rail travel. These all-day rover tickets give you the freedom to explore at your own pace, hopping on and off as you please.
The journey covers roughly 6.2 miles, taking you past historic sites like Big Pit station and Garn-yr Erw Halt, home to the famous Whistle Inn. It is a wonderful way to see the local heritage without ever feeling rushed.
At Blaenavon High Level, you can watch the locomotive 'run around' to the other end of the carriages. This 15-minute break is the perfect opportunity to snap some photos of the engine in action before the return leg.
On the way back to Furnace Sidings, listen to the engine working hard as it tackles a 1:34 gradient. Being one of the steepest on any heritage railway, it’s a real thrill to hear the loco puffing away.
Travelling at a gentle maximum speed of 25 miles per hour, you’ll have plenty of time to soak up the views from your carriage. Whether you are visiting as a couple or taking the whole family, this is a day out filled with charm and history.
