Set in seven hectares of park and woodlands, the 19th century Saltmarshe Hall sits on the banks of the winding River Ouse, just outside Howden. It's a truly lovely spot and easy to get to from all areas around York and Doncaster.

As a Grade II listed building, this Georgian hotel has a lovely mix of original features and modern touches. It's family run and offers a warm welcome for guests coming for their afternoon tea.

Saltmarshe Hall boasts several ornate dining rooms, snugs and drawing rooms where afternoon tea can be taken. Once settled at your table (dressed with crisp, white linen of course) your tea time platter will be served.

Alongside all the traditional sweet and savoury goodies such as scones, sandwiches and cakes, you'll have a choice of hot drink. And naturally, it's proper Yorkshire tea or freshly brewed coffee.

After your tea, we highly recommend a little stroll around the gardens. The well-tended walled garden is a lovely display of colour and aromas in season and the extensive lawns are truly lovely. You can even follow the river along an embankment walk.
