What Can I Expect

All aboard the Father’s Day steam train! This special departure on Sunday 16th June 2024 celebrates Dad’s day, with First Class dining on the Great Central Railway’s Father’s Day Express from Loughborough Station.

The Great Central Railway is the UK’s only double-track, mainline heritage railway in the UK and it’s one of the most popular tourist attractions in the East Midlands. These unique Father’s Day steam train lunch packages are the perfect way to treat your Dad.

Each guest will enjoy a three-course meal with tea and coffee in the beautifully-restored First Class dining car of a GCR steam train. Service is impeccable, the food (prepared in the onboard galley kitchens) is delicious and the views are wonderful too.

The journey takes in the full length of the line from Loughborough to Leicester North and back again. The lovely Charnwood countryside is your backdrop - and a highlight is stopping on the viaduct over the stunning Swithland Reservoir.

As a First Class dining guest, you are allowed to travel freely on all the train services of the day along the complete line. That means you can explore all four stations, the museums, the authentic waiting rooms, ticket offices and other gems along the way.

Availability

  • Vouchers are valid for use on 16th June 2024 only
  • The train will depart from Loughborough Central at 13:00 and return at approximately 14:45

Location

  • Depart from the Great Central Station in Loughborough
  • The train will travel 4 miles before taking in the views from the Swithland viaduct, near Rothley and follows the same route North back to the station

  • Minimum age 5
  • Passengers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult
  • The Sample menu shown is subject to change, vegetarian options are also available

Spectators

  • Family and friends that would like to see the train off from the station will need to buy a platform ticket which also allows them access to the museum
  • There are full facilities on board the trains at the station
