The question most people ask as soon as they arrive for their tour is ‘Why the name Black Sheep Brewery?'. Well, Black Sheep was established in 1992 by Paul Theakston, when the brewery T & R Theakstons, run by his family for a number of generations, was sold to a national brewery. Paul, the ‘Black Sheep' of the family, then set up his own brewery in the same town, Masham, to brew quality beer.
This is independent brewing at its best. Backed with the skills and knowledge of generations of brewers, Black Sheep produces classic and modern beers to suit all tastes; from Bitters, Stouts and Dark Ales to Hazy Pale Ales and Lagers.
On your visit to the brewery, you'll be shepherded around the brewhouse to experience the sights, sounds and smells of brewing. No visit would be complete without a tasting session at the ‘Baa…r'. And if you fancy taking some beers home with you, a visit to the Sheepy Shop is a must!
