The noise from that Merlin engine is already impressive from the ground, so imagine the moment the Spitfire slots neatly into formation next to you. It truly is magical and emotive. You feel incredibly privileged to be able to see this plane from a truly unique angle and unrestricted views from the chopper mean that you will capture amazing shots of the Spitfire. In fact, you'll be so close to the plane that you'll be able to wave at Flight Lieutenant Charlie Brown who will be at her controls!
Charlie will ensure he flies the Spitfire level below and along each side of the helicopter, so everyone gets a chance for the superb viewing angles and you'll have the superb views of the English Channel, the patchwork of Kentish fields or even those famous white cliffs as the backdrop to your photos.

Fly alongside a Spitfire on a helicopter flight lasting approximately 10 minutes. The spitfire will fly in formation on both sides of the aircraft giving you excellent close up views and air to air photo opportunities. The flight is preceded by a short ground briefing. The spitfire used is BM597 a mk Vb Spitfire from the Historic Aircraft Collection and is usually flown by Charlie Brown an experience Spitfire pilot.

Flights are scheduled to take place once a month from March to October, subject to weather conditions and aircraft serviceability.

The flights depart from helipads in East Kent. Sites such as Hythe, Lydd, Rochester and Manston are used subject to the current location of the aircraft.

There are no age restrictions, maximum passenger weight is 95Kg (210lbs). Guests will fly in a six seater helicopter - at no point do guests fly in the Spitfire. Guests may be able to reserve the front seat alongside the pilot for an additional fee (payable upon booking, subject to availability).

Spectators are welcome to watch the helicopter departure and may be able to see part of the spitfire flight - binoculars are recommended. For Manston departures the Spitfire and Hurricane Museum (free entry) Manston also has its own museum housing a wide range of aircraft and memorabilia (Admission charges apply). A visit to both museums will make a superb addition to your day. The memorial museum has a cafeteria offering hot and cold meals and drinks.
