What's Included

  • One day course learning the art of stained glass painting
  • During the day you will cover: introduction, design for stained glass, introduction to medium, materials, drawing and painting
  • You will be provided with glass pieces of about approx 7-8 inch to make up your painted panel
  • Your glass piece will be kiln fired at the end of the session for a later collection
  • All equipment is provided including aprons and gloves
  • Break for lunch (please bring a packed lunch)
  • Tea and coffee are provided
  • You will be part of a small group of up to 3 participants for this experience

What Can I Expect

Get into stained glass painting! You are invited to join Jamal at his little studio in the Oldbury area of Birmingham to learn the delicate art of painting designs on stained glass panels.

During your day at the studio, you'll work through the whole process. Jamal will select some glass for you. This is what you will be painting onto. Designs will be provided but you can also bring your own 'suitable' design drawn on paper with you, and work on one with Jamal.

Design done, you'll be shown how a stained glass artist works to trace the design onto the chosen morsel of glass. You will then sit down to paint. With a decent backlight, so you can see what you're doing, you'll set about painting your design onto the glass. It's quite intricate, but you don't need any previous experience to do it.

The final session of the course will allow you to complete your painting on the stained glass. Once finished, the pieces need to be fired in a kiln, to make sure the colours stay vibrant and lovely for a very long time to come (or you can take your piece home un-fired).

That means you won't be able to take your panel home with you on the day, but believe us when we say it is well worth the wait. What was simply coloured glass, has become a vibrant work of art with your design on it. Hold your glass up to the light and let those colours come to life.

  • The process of kiln firing takes some hours, so the finished piece can either be collected on a later day or delivery can be arranged at a cost, payable direct
