What Can I Expect

This is your invitation to a packhorse picnic in the Lake District! Spend the day with horses on a guided walk with a picnic feast, meditation and perhaps even wild swimming included.

Your hosts for this adventure describe this experience as a wellbeing day. It’s a very gentle and mindful way of connecting with nature, enjoying food and relaxation, whilst taking a stroll around a lovely corner of the Lake District.

As you gather over a nice hot tea in the morning, you will be introduced to the wonderful pack horses who will be accompanying you on your day. And what better way to start the adventure than with a little meditation with the horses. This will be an indelible moment of the experience for many.

Relaxed and rejuvenated, it’s time to pack up the horses (they'll be carrying the hampers containing your lunch feast) and then head off on a gentle guided walk through stunning countryside around Ambleside.

Walking alongside your pack horses, amongst the woodlands and moorlands of the Lakes, your hosts will select the perfect spot for your stop for lunch. It’s a truly convivial affair, sharing some good, healthy food with likeminded people.

Nourished and watered, you’re all ready for the off again. There’s no doubt that being by water is very calming and therapeutic, which is why your route will be taking you to the water’s edge.

If the weather is clement and you’re feeling ready for it, this is also the chance for you to plunge into the water for some wild swimming. The horses absolutely love it too and watching them splashing around is really rather mesmerising.

Feeling thoroughly invigorated and inspired, it’s a leisurely walk back to base, with plenty of time to reflect on what you enjoyed most about your packhorse picnic day in the Lake District.
