What Can I Expect

An online carpentry course - just for women! Practical, hands-on and inclusive, these live online carpentry lessons will teach you all the basic carpenter and joiner skills you need to get working with wood.

This community-focussed, not-for-profit business is based in Devon. Headed up by Astrid and her highly skilled and enthusiastic team of collaborators, the group specialises in delivering carpentry courses and takes on commission work too.

It doesn't matter where you are in the country, as all lessons are taught online. You can watch the workshops live and you'll have access to the recordings afterwards, so if you want to rewind and rewatch you can!

So, what will you be making? The answer is a funky little foot stool that is practical and looks good too. You will need some basic tools, most of which you will probably already have at home, including things like a handsaw, tape measure, combi square, screwdriver and clamps.

You'll get the full tool list when you book your place on the course. It's at this moment you can also opt for a materials pack with 30% off the standard price. The pack contains all the wood and fixings you'll need to make your foot stool. 

And there's no need for any previous experience, a workshop, shed or even a workbench, it can all be done on your kitchen workshop or table.

Over the three consecutive one-hour courses, you'll learn how to mark out the wood, saw to the right measurements and join pieces together. Of course, mastering carpentry takes a lot longer than three lessons, but you will achieve loads, with a very useful footstool to show for your efforts!

Brimming with your new-found confidence, you will be well-equipped to continue in your carpentry creativity at home. And as one of the previous participants said : “I don't need to wait for someone else, I can do it myself now!”

• You will need a few basic tools in preparation for this course:  Hand saw, tape measure, combi or set square, pair of clamps, screwdriver, pencil and ruler, hammer
• The materials pack comes with pre-drilled holes.  If you are sourcing your own materials you will also need a corded or cordless drill and a countersink bit with a 3mm drill bit
