What Can I Expect

Lee Valley is a fantastic location for water sports. These ‘Explore Kayaking' sessions are totally geared to those new to the sport. It means you can give kayaking a go, without the need to buy all the gear - it's all there for you.

You will be kitted out with a kayak and a paddle, as well as the safety gear. You'll start the session on land, with a safety briefing and instruction on how to get into and launch your kayak, as well as basic paddle techniques. Then you'll head out onto the water.

You'll be on one of the dedicated lakes at Lee Valley. The crystal-clear, freshwater lakes are perfect for your first strokes in a kayak, as they are nice and calm. Having been shown how to use your paddle, you will soon get into the rhythm and you will be cutting through the water with ease.

The kayak coaching team at Lee Valley is brilliant. The instructors are enthusiastic, friendly and welcoming. They love nothing more than seeing newbies take to kayaking like the proverbial duck to water!

Availability

• Valid for use on Saturdays and Sundays with weekdays during national school holidays
• Dates and session times are subject to availability

Suitable For

• Minimum age 8
• Under 12s must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult at all times throughout their visit (including doing the activity)
• Participants aged under 16 must have a responsible adult (over the age of 21 unless legal parent/guardian) who remains on site at Lee Valley White Water Centre for the duration of their activity with one responsible adult to every four children (max)
• Maximum weight 18 stone
• All participants must complete a Flat Water Declaration before the experience.  Details will be provided when redeeming your voucher.  If under 18, a parent can complete on your behalf

Spectators

• Spectators are welcome to come along and watch the action

Anything Else

• Closed toe shoes must be worn for this experience (No sandals, flip flops or heeled shoes)
• All participants must wear a minimum of shorts and a t-shirt whilst on the activity
• Wetsuits and wetboots are not mandatory, but are available to hire for £5 per person, payable on the day
• There are onsite food outlets where food and refreshments can be purchased with great views of the lake
• On site kids play area and the beautiful nearby River Lee Country Park
• Disc Golf Course pay on the day activities are available to enjoy, subject to availability
