What Can I Expect

‘Here there be dragons’ on this unique and very fabulous Dragon Making weekend! Over the space of two days, you’ll work with skilled blacksmiths to create an amazing metal dragon for you to take home.

Whether you’re inspired by the mythology and mysticism of dragons, or just love the Games of Thrones dragons Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion, this experience is totally for you. Using age-old techniques and coke-fired forges, you will fashion your very own dragon out metal.

The dimensions are impressive. Around two-foot high, with a two-foot wingspan, your handcrafted dragon is sure to claw its way to prime position in your house!

Leading the course will be super skilled and creative blacksmith John and his team of merry metalworkers. The work they do on a commission basis is seriously impressive and the imaginativeness when creating these wonderful metal dragons is amazing to see.

You will work that metal over the course of two days in the light and spacious forge in the village of Farley Hill, not that far from Reading. It might be a long way from Westeros, but you will totally get into making your GoT-style dragon.

And of course ‘no-one will take my dragons’, which means your dragon will be going home with you. As well as looking very cool in any home, we hear the dragons can be easily adapted to breathe fire or smoke, for that extra dramatic effect!

Group sizes are kept very small for these dragon making weekends, with a maximum of two pupils for one blacksmith instructor. Courses can be run on two consecutive days such as Friday and Saturday, or across two Saturdays. Let’s make dragons!
