What Can I Expect

Learn to play traditional African instruments on a workshop in London! The African rhythms will be ringing out during these hands-on musical experiences. Expert musicians will be teaching you the drum patterns and the beats to make beautiful African music with a variety of traditional instruments.

We are offering vouchers for two-hour classes at this Bethnal Green music studio, home to London's leading African drumming and music not-for-profit organisation. You can attend solo or duo as part of a small group, or you can buy a voucher for an exclusive private workshop for up to six of you to drum and play together.

The collection of traditional African instruments includes Djembe drums (goblet-shaped drums played with bare hands) and Dun Duns (hour-glass drums played with a curved beater). Then there are Shekeres, the beads and shaker percussion instruments with their free-flowing sounds.

The Ngoni is a ‘hunter's harp' with a wonderfully harmonious and relaxing sound made by plucking the strings. A true delight to play. The Balafon is best described as a xylophone, with hollow wooden block ‘keys' that resonate. Often used during ceremonies, the Balafon sound is bright and crisp.

The super-talented music tutors are all passionate about these traditional instruments and African rhythms. And once you start playing, you'll be mesmerised by the flow of the sounds. You'll be taught patterns and notes to be able to keep a beat and rhythm, when all playing together as a group.

For two hours you can lose yourself in the sounds, beats and rhythms of Africa with these brilliant traditional instrument workshops in the heart of East London. Buy your voucher online and get ready to get down to the beat on your multi-instrument workshop!
