What Can I Expect
All aboard for the Summer Special vintage bus and steam train days! A wonderful day out in Derbyshire that combines vintage buses, heritage railways and Matlock Bath; the Peak District town with a seaside flavour!
Your nostalgic day out starts with being picked up in a fully-restored vintage coach, with stops in North Nottinghamshire available. You’ll then enjoy a superb journey to Wirksworth, the home of Ecclesbourne Valley Railway.
The longest heritage railway line in Derbyshire, you will travel by steam train from Wirksworth to Duffield and back, with stops at Idridgehay and Shottle stations. There’s a licensed bar onboard, with a full range of drinks for you to purchase and enjoy during your trip.
You’ll then be collected by vintage coach to go to Matlock Bath, where you’ll have free time in the afternoon. On sunny weekends and Bank Holidays, the town attracts lots of motorbikers and it’s a great place to visit.
We recommend a walk along the North and South Parade with a stop off for a bite to eat (fish and chips are a must!) and ice cream, then perhaps a visit to the Aquarium, before spending some two penny pieces in the games arcades!
After a coffee on a terrace overlooking the River Derwent, visit the Derwent Gardens at the south end of the town and then cross over the bridge to take Lover’s Walk under the trees back to the train station areas.
Your vintage coach will be waiting in Matlock Bath to take you back to your original departure point after a fantastic summer special day out in Derbyshire filled with fabulous vintage travel and sightseeing too.
