What Can I Expect
Book a lorry driving experience in West Sussex for your chance to drive a proper, 44-tonne truck! We are offering vouchers for one-hour sessions, giving you around 40 minutes behind the wheel.
We love that they are operated by a family-run, professional driver training school. That means they do this for a living and the instructors are great at getting you into full trucker mode!
The experiences take place on the tarmac perimeter roads around Ford Airfield, which sits between Chichester and Worthing, just south of Arundel. Here there’s loads of space, no other traffic and a nice tarmac area to practise your moves.
And you will be doing some serious manoeuvres in your behemoth of a lorry. At 44-tons with a 45ft, double-axle trailer attached, this modern class 1 Volvo FH tractor unit is a dream to drive.
After a demo from your instructor, it’s over to you. You’ll be in the cab in the driving seat for 40 minutes on these West Sussex experiences. That gives you plenty of time to perfect how you move off in a lorry, braking distances and stopping (very important!).
Once you’ve got the basics cracked, the challenge is to reverse into a loading bay and maybe even take on a coned-out slalom course to see how your spatial awareness and steering skills are.
These lorry driving experiences near Arundel in West Sussex are great fun and suitable from age 16. There’s no need for a driving licence, so as long as you’re at least 5ft tall, you can get a taste of truck driving!
