What Can I Expect

Enjoy flying lessons in a four-seater plane at Sywell, an aerodrome steeped in history! We have vouchers for a 30, 45 or 60-minute lesson in a Cessna 172 at Sywell airfield just north of Northampton.

Aviation fans will absolutely love having a lesson in a modern light aircraft at Sywell, as the venue is well-known amongst the plane spotter fraternity. And, subject to pilot approval, you can invite one guest to join you in the four-seater aircraft as an observer during your hands-on flight!

Sywell first opened way back in 1928 and the airfield played a very active role in WW2. Nowadays Sywell hosts many events such as Light Aircraft Association rallies, fly-ins and air displays. There's even an on-site aviation museum you can visit and a rather fine Art Deco hotel too.

Pilots love Sywell because there are four runways (so cross winds aren’t an issue), there’s a great on site cafe with a view over the apron and it's a place that’s small enough to care, but big enough to have all the facilities.

It’s the same for the flying club hosting your lesson. All instructors are welcoming and friendly, and with their passion for flight, you’ll learn lots during your lesson at Sywell, with flights operated by a Cessna 172.

When Is It Available

• Available Wednesdays to Saturdays with occasional Sundays throughout the year
• Flights are subject to weather conditions and availability

• Minimum age is 14
• Under 18's must be accompanied by an adult on the airfield
• Maximum weight depends on a number of factors, please contact us prior to booking if you are more than 18 stone.
• Maximum height 6ft 3 inches

Spectators

• Spectators are welcome to attend and watch participants in flight with plenty of great photo opportunities
• Participants may bring an interested observer (min age 14) who can observe the lesson from the rear seat (at the discretion of the flight instructor and subject to weather conditions and combined weight)
