What Can I Expect
Sign up for our Chester Zoo photography day and track Tigers and Elephants with your lens! These one-day photography workshops take place at Chester Zoo and will show you how to take great safari-style pictures of magnificent animals.
Your host for this course at Chester Zoo is professional photographer Rachel. As she says: 'photography is my life' and having visited Africa on safari, she loved it so much she decided to specialise in wildlife photography. For this passionate and talented photographer, nothing beats capturing the majesty of these mighty animals.
Luckily, there's no need to go to Masai Mara or the Serengeti to take photos of big animals. Chester Zoo is home to over 21,000 animals, including lots of the stars of safaris. From the Greater One-horned Rhino to the Asiatic Lions, they are all here at Chester Zoo and very photogenic they are too!
As you move around the zoo, Rachel will show you all you need to know concerning aperture, shutter speed, ISO settings, focus modes and composition to get the very best images of the animals you'll be photographing. This is your chance to finally leave 'auto' mode behind and really start taking your own photos.
One of Rachel's best pieces of advice is to slow things down. Take the time to sit and observe the animals you're taking photos of. Watch as the female Elephant protectively wraps her trunk around her offspring, witness the Black Rhino rubbing its horn and spot the Orangutans using leaves to have a good old back scratch. All these moments make for great images.
And indeed, Chester Zoo is a great venue for these courses. Covering over 125 acres, you'll have lots to see and lots of fascinating subjects to photograph throughout your day. Entrance tickets to the zoo are included for all participants too.
Whether you're a total beginner or have some photography experience, all are welcome on this Chester Zoo photography course. If you have your own DSLR camera bring it along, but if not there's the possibility of hiring one through Rachel. Enjoy your day and capture some great images of those magnificent mammals!
