What Can I Expect
Meet the bees and their human helper when you go beekeeping on the Norfolk / Suffolk border! We are offering two-hour visits to this rather lovely apiary, with plenty of time for you to literally lift the lid on what keeping bees involves.
Near Bungay in a bucolic corner of the East Anglian countryside, you'll find Stacy and her bees. It's a thoroughly lovely and tranquil place, surrounded by farms, fields and flower meadows - the perfect spot for pollen-hunting worker bees, keen to impress their Queen.
After a warm welcome from Stacy, you'll get kitted out in a full beekeeper suit and head over to the hives. There's so much interesting stuff to learn about when it comes to bees. How do they actually make honey? Where do they go in winter? How do bees make wax? How do bees communicate? All these and many more questions will be answered for you.
You won't just be standing listening and watching though. You will be handling those frames full of bees, identifying pollen and honey stocks, searching for eggs and seeking out the all-important Queen bee amongst thousands of her workers. It's utterly fascinating to watch the bees go about their business, with their gentle, contented hum filling the Norfolk air.
It's clear for all to see that head beekeeper Stacy loves her job. She sells her honey, beeswax candles and wraps, leather balm and wood polish all over East Anglia, Essex and beyond. It's all natural and all hand-made, using all the natural products her bees provide.
And after a couple of hours around the hives, you'll be invited to sample some of that delicious East Anglian honey produced by those talented bees. A deliciously sweet and flavoursome finish!
You can book private visits for two or four people, or join a small group beekeeping experience at Bungay on the edge of Suffolk and Norfolk, all hosted by Stacy and her happy bees.
