What Can I Expect

Anytime shared hot air balloon flights over Oxfordshire! These premium vouchers mean you can book a weekend or weekday flight in a hot air balloon, departing from Stadhampton village in South Oxfordshire either early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

Your flight starts in the best possible way with a meet and greet over tea and coffee with pastries. After a safety briefing, you’ll be invited to assist with preparing the balloon ready to fly - we highly recommend taking part as it’s great fun and all part of the experience!

The basket on this 120ft-balloon is one of the largest in the country. The capacity is 22, but group sizes are kept to between 10 and 18 passengers, so everyone is comfortable and spread across the four compartments.

And it’s worth pointing out at this moment that only altitude can be controlled in a balloon. This is done by using the burners to put hot air into the balloon. As for where you fly, it’s simply where the wind takes you. And same for the distance - it all depends on wind speed!

So, from your base at Stadhampton, you could be floating at around 2000ft over many of the picturesque Oxfordshire villages, soaring over Oxford and maybe even seeing the lovely Chiltern Hills Area of Natural Beauty.

The landing part of your experience can be quite exciting (we won’t say anymore here!). After being transported back to base by the balloon team, there’s time for a nice little Champagne reception.

The hot air ballooning team in Oxfordshire is led by Chief Pilot Spencer Craze (great name, great job!). He has many, many years of experience piloting hot air balloons both home and abroad. The whole team works together to make sure you have an excellent hot air balloon flight over Oxfordshire!

Availability

• Vouchers are valid for weekdays and weekends from April to October
• Sunrise flights take off approximately one hour after sunrise
• Sunset flights take off around three hours before sunset
• Participants should arrive at least one hour before take-off
• Please note, optimum weather conditions are needed for balloons to be able to safely operate
• If the weather forecast is deemed unsuitable your flight will be rescheduled
• Participants must phone at 10:30 on the evening before for sunrise flights or at 13:00 on the day for sunset flights to check the status of the flight and arrival time

Suitable For

• Minimum age 10
• Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult
• Minimum height 4ft 8ins (146 cms)
• Not suitable during pregnancy
• Nobody under the influence of alcohol is permitted to fly
• Passengers must be able to stand unassisted for at least an hour, be able to bend their knees to take the seated landing position, follow all instructions given by the pilot and react quickly in the unlikely event of an emergency
• Passengers must be sure they do not have any pre-existing or current medical conditions which could be affected by a hot air balloon flight including but not exclusively recent major surgery
• The basket provides easy access:  Two compartments have doors with just a small step up and down.  The other two compartments have foot holes in the basket to help you climb in and out

• Family and friends are welcome to watch your take-off

Anything Else

• Warm, comfortable layers should be worn
• Comfortable flat shoes (no flip flops, open-toed sandals or high heels)
• Hats or caps are recommended to protect your head from the burners
