Vines were first grown in this location in the heart of beautiful Shropshire in 50AD, when wine making was introduced to Britain by the Romans. Today it has been revived as a modern working vineyard, home to an award-winning family run business that produces some of Britain's finest red and white wines. You are invited to tour this unique site, learn its story of wine making past and present and sample some of its superb produce.
The experience begins with a welcome to the vineyard and tea or coffee. The site's Roman history and modern day revival will then be revealed in an informative talk before you move on to tour the vineyard, learning about the vines chosen, their care and the qualities of soil and climate that help produce grapes suitable for wine making.
In the winery you will learn about the production process, from pressing the grapes to labelling and corking bottles. A tasting will follow of the five wines, including a sparkling variety produced in the vineyard. The experience ends with a buffet lunch or supper with local produce and a glass of home-produced wine. As a souvenir you will be given a bottle of wine to take away with you. There is a shop where more wine and gifts can be purchased and the vineyard also has adjacent lavender fields and its own flock of Roman sheep.
Into the Blue also offers vineyard tour experiences at wine producing estates throughout the UK. Please visit our main vineyard section for more details.
